21.06.2024 Rough edges

The rough edges of my splintering nails remind me of the reality of myself, others and the earth: if we’re honest, time is not always kind to us and can hurt us, make us hurt others and make others hurt us. This is unavoidable. On the other hand, denial of and dishonesty about that hurt is avoidable. Even if it’s more difficult at times, it is undoubtedly the better plan. The attempt to cover up and deny the effects of time, even though it is a widespread phenomenon, is exceedingly unlikely to succeed, to say the least. And at the same time it is equally likely to create and foster more pain and suffering than the practice of honest conversation with time.
